  • Product Overview

Optigard Ant Gel Bait provides unrivaled control of many commonly encountered species of ants. Through ingestion and transfer of the active ingredient, Thiamethoxam, in a clear, odorless, and attractively palatable bait formulation, Optigard is designed for effective, fast ant colony elimination.

The transparent formulation of Optigard is designed to remain clear throughout the lifetime of the treatment with a thicker consistency than most other gel bait products. Packaged in a ready-to-use syringe with plunger for easy application, Optigard works without a bait gun applicator and actually may not compatible with some such applicator devices.

  • Benefits & Use

Optigard Ant Gel Bait provides effective control and elimination of a broad spectrum of ant species, including Argentine Ants, Carpenter Ants, Ghost Ants and several other nuisance ant species. The bait attractiveness draws a steady stream of foraging ants, which ingest the bait before sharing with other members of the colony, creating a transfer effect designed to wipe out the entire infestation.

Optigard's unique bait gel formulation will not stain most surfaces or give off strong or unpleasant odor. Unlike many competing gel bait products, Optigard's thicker consistency will hold its shape without running or dripping, making it ideal for applications both indoors and outdoors.

  • Target Pests

For indoor and outdoor control of most structure-invading ants including Argentine Ants, Carpenter Ants, Ghost Ants and others. Optigard should not be used for control or treatment of Fire Ants, Harvester Ants, or Pharaoh Ants.

    Active Ingredient: Thiamethoxam .010%

    Manufacturer: Syngenta

    Formulation: Gel Bait

Approved Sites: Use sites include residential areas and institutional, warehousing and commercial establishments (including warehouses, restaurants, food processing plants, supermarkets, hospitals, nursing homes, motels, hotels, schools, apartments, aircraft, buses, boats/ships, trains).

Application Information: (Per Product Label) Optigard Ant Gel Bait is designed for the control of many species of ants (excluding Fire Ants, Harvester Ants, and Pharaoh Ants). Attractiveness of the bait to ants is enhanced by its high moisture retention properties and the bait will remain attractive for at least two weeks following bait deployment.

This bait takes advantage of ant trophallaxis (regurgitation) allowing for transfer of active ingredient throughout the colony. Ants that feed on the gel will return to their nest and trans- fer the bait to the queen and their young, thereby killing the queen, the young and the entire colony. Dead ants should begin to appear within days after ants have begun feeding on the bait. Substantial reduction in ants foraging should be seen within a few days to a week.

For effective management of certain ant species such as Argentine Ants, reduction of food sources (such as honeydew-producing insects like aphids) near entry points around the structure is critical. Long term control is most effectively obtained with a combination of methods for ant management.
